What version of PDF do I use ... ???

First off, this is an awesome program. I have been using it for years with no problem.

The problem came when I began to "think" .... my wife says that can be dangerous.

I want to put away a few magazines (popular science, popular mechanics, ...) to save ... more or less forever .... just to look during some later date.

I downloaded them from the web as PNG (could also have downloaded as jpeg).

No problem saving them as a pdf document using this program.

The problem came when I started thinking should I be using 1.4, 1.7, x-3 ..... or any of my other choices.

I also have a choice of color model and color conversion.

I did choose "best" for quality.

Till now, I have never touched any of the settings except for quality (always choosing best).

I tried to read the differences between the different version but that really didn't help me decided what version to use. Just telling me the technical differences doesn't mean I understand which is better.

Can someone tell me in simple terms the best way to set up this program to save these magazines.

Storage size is not a problem. I have a couple of 1 TB external drives I am using to store things like this.
