How can it fax without a telephone line plugged to a modem?

I guess Im asking really how it works w/o a phone signal? Ive used software faxes in the past- but they always required an actual live phone line to work.

Are you saying that pdf24 doesnt?

The Fax is transmitted online via the internet and at some points there are special systems which terminate the calls using the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
